Watch Nehemiah Project

We have decided to take this on as a group for our summer outreach project.  These guys have identified large populations in New Orleans who’s lives have not yet recovered and are still devastated in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  In private conversations with Rob, he actually sees what we are doing “At the Crash” as a model for what he believes could impact the communities in New Orleans.  In other words, he does not think that simply “building houses” or “giving people money” will provide a long term solution.  He believes that in the process of rebuilding, they need to also focus on providing opportunities for people to find community in sharing with each other and exploring their faith.

Their vision is to first go in and better understand and document the ongoing problems, in order to come up with solutions that will change lives.  Through a documentary, they believe it is highly likely they will be able to provide a marketable product to sell to the TV networks, which will raise additional funds.  They have already been in contact with numerous government officials from New Orleans, Louisiana, Colorado, and arms of the Federal government, who have pledged remarkable access and support for their concept.

The only thing they need to kick this off a high impact ministry, is about $10,000.  These funds would cover professional quality video and basic travel expenses.  They are hoping to be able to take their next trip in just a couple of weeks, and so request a pledge of support ASAP.  They also have space for up to 3 of us to personally join them as they travel to New Orleans, if any have an interest.

We are doing this simply to help people who are still in desperate need.  Though we do not do this for personal gain, these guys have already done much to help us going, and have indicated that we would be able to use their equipment in the future, which will undoubtedly be needed at some point.

I am not at all accustomed to asking for money, and frankly don’t want anyone to give except as your own heart leads you to do.  Not all of us will be able to give, but I do believe that as a group we have a potential opportunity have an impact in this situation.  I am hoping we can get this group at least part way to their $10,000 goal.  If you are interested in supporting, please respond with intent for one of the following:

  1. Interest in going to New Orleans
  2. Intent to give
  3. Pledge to give

Again, only what your heart leads.
